Chelsea Gold For Kelnan Plants

Congratulations to Chris and Fay of Kelnan Plants, who have just received their 7th Gold Medal at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show (Chris’s 60th RHS Gold).

The prestigious Gold Award was the result of Kelnan’s display of restios and other native South African varieties. According to Chris and Fay: “The restio looks like a hybrid of grass, bamboo, rush and horsetail, but is actually an ancient Southern Hemisphere plant family (mainly from South Africa). For our display at Chelsea, restios were underplanted with various bulbs, shrubs and perennials that are associated with them, and together they create a stunning display in shades of green with coppery browns, lifted by the seasonal flowering plants.”

Kelnan Plants enjoys a sheltered location in a hidden valley on the edge of Penzance, from where Chris and his mother Fay specialise in the South African plants for which they are increasingly well-known. Chris has been a nurseryman for 30 years and is looking forward to building his collection of Southern Hemisphere varieties even further in the future.

You will find Kelnan Plants at market every Saturday, where they sell a large variety of plants for the garden.
