Market regulars The Cornish Olive Stall embarked on a special mission recently; to find the very best Olive Oil for the keenest price and bring it home to Cornwall.
Business Owner Nikki Magill explained: “There are many wonderful things you can grow and produce here in Cornwall, but unfortunately Olive Oil isn’t one of them. A lot of the oil for sale in supermarkets in the UK is not a good standard, so we decided it was down to us to search out a superior product and make it available to our customers at Truro Farmers Market.”
Nikki and her husband and business partner Steve selflessly took it upon themselves to travel to Crete, where they visited the olive groves of the Oreino Mountains of Eastern Crete, to the south of the town of Sitia – which is where Azorias Extra Virgin Olive Oil is sourced.
Independently recommended by those in the know, Azorias is described as “a medium style of oil with very well balanced fruit, bitterness and pepper. The complex flavour tones give a good deal of character to this essentially herbaceous oil.”
Nikki added: “The olive variety used is Koroneiki which gives this oil it’s lively aroma and fruity, gently-spicy flavour. It’s acidity is a mere 0.3, making it a fantastic olive oil.”
Nikki and Steve are thrilled to be importing direct from the producer – cutting out the middle-man enables them to offer competitive prices, despite being a small independent retailer.
Azorias Extra Virgin Olive Oil is now available in 5L and 1L cans, plus a 50cl and 25cl glass bottle from The Cornish Olive Stall, which can be found at market every week.
