Held every Wednesday and Saturday
on Truro's Lemon Quay
9am - 4pm
The Cornish food and drink industry is going from strength to strength – a happy fact soon to be demonstrated at The Big Produce Market – the greatest gathering of the county’s producers, which takes place on 29th and 30th August on Lemon Quay. Launching at the market is a new producer to add to the mix – Spirits of Cornwall – an artisan spirits and liqueur company.
A failed batch of marmalade and a bottle of gin was the inspiration that led proprietor Gill Doble to develop a range of original flavours, all of which have great depth and complexity. Gill recently tried her range out on eager trialists and was pleased with the response. One prospective customer commented: “they are delicious, unique and affordable and I can enjoy them all year round – with or without mixers, but personally, I make great cocktails with them!”
Gill said “I am particularly pleased to launch Spirits of Cornwall at the Big Produce Market as the event represents exactly what I want to capture with my spirits and liqueurs – a professional but artisan approach, featuring the best ingredients, and with much care and attention dedicated to every product.”
Spirits of Cornwall produce several standard flavours which will be available all year round with their signature liqueur, Cornish Honey & Saffron, already being hailed as a product that uniquely reflects the constant innovation seen in Cornish businesses. This unique and delicious spirit has generated considerable trade interest already. Other flavours will be seasonal as Gill explains: “when the batches run out we all have to wait [im]patiently for another growing season”.
Gill is keen to promote local suppliers and uses Heather Bell Honey from the Lizard , Skewes Strawberries of Perranwell, blackcurrants from Mithian and this year’s elderflowers sourced from Blackwater. Gill said “Initially products will be available from Truro Farmer’s Market and local food and craft fairs but eventually I hope to have stockists throughout Cornwall”.
