Food of the Gods raw chocolate is handmade in small batches in West Cornwall using raw, organic and fairtrade cacao from Peru. The chocolate is made using the sought-after criollo bean, which is revered for its fine taste and delicate earthy notes. The chocolate is made simply using the cacao bean and a small amount of date syrup. No refined sugar, dairy, fats, oils, soya or emulsifiers are added. This creates a rich, dark and intense chocolate that is designed to be savoured.
Food of the Gods takes ethical responsibilities seriously. They use organic and fair trade cacao which is sustainably grown and sourced ethically. This cacao is grown using agroforestry techniques, where the cocoa trees are planted alongside native plants, under the canopy of the rainforest. This method ensures that the cocoa grows in its natural environment, which means that there is no need for the use of fertilisers or pesticides. The cacao is certified organic from the organic food federation.
Food of The Gods also have a plastic free policy in all their packaging, which is 100% compostable, and have set up a packaging composting scheme in St Just, where they are able to collect and compost not only their own packaging, but also that from several local businesses.
Food of The Gods offers several different varieties of chocolate including a delicious spiced Orange chocolate with cinnamon and nutmeg and a date and seasalt chocolate using local salt from Cornish Sea Salt Co. They also produce a milk chocolate using coconut milk, which makes it suitable for vegan diets.
